Snake Bites - Central Veterinary Emergency

Snake bites present differently in cats and dogs. Heres what you need to look out for:

Dogs:

Hiding
Loss of Balance
Collapse
Excessive salivation or drooling
Dilated Pupils
Panting
Collapse
Rapid heart rate
Blood in urine
Paralysis

Dogs may appear to get better in between symptoms. This is known as the False Improvement Stage. Your dog may appear to have recovered, but this can be a false presentation and can deteriorate quickly.

Cats:

Dilated pupils
Difficultly breathing
Open mouth breathing
Lethargy
Sudden weakness or shaking of muscles
Collapse
Paralysis
Blood in urine
Loss of bladder control
Excessive salivation
Paralysis

Unlike dogs, symptoms of a snake bite in cats can take up to 72 hours to present themselves.
